We had the pleasure of welcoming Daniel Wilsher to the College for an INSET day recently, as part of our regular safeguarding training. He delivered a powerful talk to staff about supporting disadvantaged students, titled “Creating Hope in Students’ Lives”. During the session, he offered practical ways to improve how we respond to the mental health challenges our young people face in their daily lives. Reflecting on his own lived experiences, he highlights that “We have the power to turn our darkest moments into the parts of our lives which shine the brightest.”
Daniel took us on an emotional journey of a child navigating trauma, based on the events and situations that have shaped his life, his challenges and more recently, successes. An award-winning mental health speaker and entrepreneur, Daniel is also the founder of Damaged Goods Co., Co-Founder of LivEdx, and a finalist on Channel 4’s hit show “The Piano”.
Daniel’s visit to Godalming College and the interactive workshops that took place highlighted the great teamwork and dedication of our staff. We’ve made significant progress in recent years in understanding mental health and the effects of trauma on young people. At the College, we’re committed to continually strengthening our safeguarding practices, and this impactful training session sparked valuable conversations as we work to develop and refine our approach.
